Science

What does Science look like at Ickworth Park?

At Ickworth Park we follow the scheme Snap Science from Year 1-Year 6. Within each module 'the big ideas' are visible and each lesson is based around a meaningful question which encourages children to think and work scientifically. This make the lessons fun, interactive and clear progression is made.

Within the Early Years, their science is based around  the curriculum area, Understanding the World and is integrated throughout their day-to-day. Using the extensive grounds at school, the Early Years learn through activities including pond dipping, bulb planting and life cycles.

Please see Appendix 2 which is attached to the Long Term Plan for 'What Science might look like' in Early Years.

STEM WEEK

As a whole school, we celebrate STEM week in Spring term which is in line with British Science week. The week focuses on the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The students take part in a range of workshops, trips and we welcome a number of visitors into the school. The whole school emerse themselves in all things STEM; whether this be making dry-ice icecream, taking a trip to Adastral Park, challenging themselves with TT Rockstars and learning how to programme Indi Bots.

STEM Ambassadors and members of our school community who work in the field of STEM come into school during the week to speak to the pupils about their work and help to inspire future careers. We follow the British Science hashtag of #smashingstereotypes.

The week culminates with a STEM Fair and Informal Sharing in each classroom. This gives families the opportunity to see what their children have been learning in the STEM subjects as well as something special which is exhibited as part of the STEM Fair.
