Uniform

Ickworth Park Primary School – Uniform

Our school has a duty to ensure that our uniform is affordable, inclusive, and in line with the statutory DfE guidance on the cost of school uniform. This includes keeping the number of compulsory branded or logo items to a minimum and ensuring families have choice in where they purchase uniform.

Pupils are expected to wear school uniform (including school PE kit) to promote a strong sense of community and belonging.

Our school colours are red, white, and grey.

Logo items may be worn and can be especially helpful for educational visits. In line with DfE guidance, we keep compulsory logo items to an absolute minimum and ensure that equivalent non-logo alternatives are always acceptable.

Children should come to school in PE kit on their PE days or sports club days.
All uniform should be clearly named.

We work with Stikins for name labels (see link below)

  • White polo shirt or cotton shirt
  • Grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore
  • Summer: red and white checked dresses or skirts

  • Sensible sandals may be worn in summer (not flip flops)

  • Rugby shirt (red or white) for Years 5 & 6

(Non-logo PE items are always acceptable, in line with DfE affordability guidance.)

Tights and socks- all children
  • Visible tights and socks e.g. those worn with shorts dresses and skirts, should be black, white, red or grey
Hair- all children
  • Long hair must be tied back at all times for safety.
  • No excessively large headbands or bows (e.g. Jo‑Jo bows, novelty ears).
  • Any ribbons, bows or headbands should be black, grey, white, or red.
Jewellery

For safety reasons:

  • Only watches may be worn.
  • Children with pierced ears may wear small stud earrings.
  • Earrings must be removed by the child themselves for PE, in line with AfPE guidance.
Shoes/Boots
  • Shoes must be sensible and safe.
  • No open‑toed sandals or Crocs.
  • Black, flat boots may be worn in winter.
  • If boots are worn to school, a change of indoor shoes is required.

During autumn and spring, children wishing to use the field at lunchtime must bring a spare pair of shoes in a carrier bag to help keep classrooms clean.

In snowy weather, wellies and spare socks are strongly advised.

Coats

Children need a warm, weather‑appropriate coat, especially as our playground is very exposed.
A waterproof coat is required throughout the year, as outdoor learning and play continue in light rain.

Summer
  • Sun hats are strongly recommended as there is limited natural shade.
  • If sunscreen is needed, it must come in the original labelled bottle.
  • Children are expected to apply their own sunscreen from Year 1 onwards.
Other equipment
  • School book bags are available to buy from My Clothing (£6.50).
  • Children may bring a very small rucksack, but storage space is very limited.
  • All children are provided with pencils, pens, rulers etc., so pencil cases are not necessary.
Water Bottles
  • Children may use a named water bottle in school.
  • Bottles must be washed and refilled with water only each day.
  • Children may refill their water during the school day.
Logo items
  • While logo uniform is entirely optional, many families find it useful for school trips, events and photographs as it helps children feel part of the Ickworth Park community. Families are welcome to choose whether or not they use logo items, and non‑branded uniform in the correct school colours is always acceptable.
  • We also have a supply of good‑quality second‑hand uniform, including logo items, which is available at a low cost. If you would like to enquire about second‑hand uniform, please contact the office.
  • If you wish to purchase new logo items, these are available from:
  • Aubyn Davies, St John’s Street, Bury St Edmunds
(appointments, online ordering and click‑and‑collect options available)
